PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pat Curran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Flo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pat Curran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Flo!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Curran pinned against the cage. Curran gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Flo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Curran sprawls well. Curran wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Flo gets slowly back to his feet.
Pat Curran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Curran scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Flo doesn't seem bothered though.

Curran closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Flo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Curran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Flo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Well, if Curran is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Curran is thwarting Flo's attempts to control the position.

Curran moves nicely into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Flo wants to get back to his feet but Curran drags him back down.
Flo defending against the ground and pound.
Flo is looking to reverse the position.
Curran controlling the position from side mount.
Curran's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Flo tries to bench press Curran off him but Curran keeps the position.
Curran lands some shots froms side control.
Curran controlling from side mount.
Flo is looking to regain half guard here but Curran keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Curran throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
You can see the frustration on Flo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Curran looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Flo managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Curran.
Flo is trying to escape the position but Curran is controlling the position.
Curran has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Flo wants to control but Curran postures up.

Curran is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Flo has escaped the position, nice work there.
Flo is being controlled here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flo is looking to reverse the position.
Flo can't do much from the bottom here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Flo is trying to escape the position but Curran is controlling the position.
Curran is trying to ground and pound but Flo uses the momentary lack of control by Curran to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Curran's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Curran drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Flo is looking for a sweep.
Curran in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Curran thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Curran wants to control but Flo is keeping him busy.
Flo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

You can see the frustration on Flo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Flo is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Curran is staying active.

Flo is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Curran has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Flo tries to buck Curran off but Curran is having none of it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Curran in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Curran throws an elbow but Flo slips to the side and avoids it well.
Flo is trying to get back to half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Pat Curran wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Flo tries to clinch but Curran moves away

and Curran counters with a nice double leg into side control. Flo won't be happy with that.
Curran prevents Flo from escaping the position.
Flo can't do much from the bottom here.
Curran just content to control the position.
Flo is trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Flo seems a little lost for a moment, as Curran dominates the positioning.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Pat Curran just wasn't active enough.
Nice body kick there by Flo.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Flo misses with a body kick.
Curran shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Flo as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pat Curran dominated that second round.
That's time! Curran's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Flo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Curran slaps away a takedown attempt from Flo, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Flo blocks the body kick.
Flo is looking to clinch but Curran is avoiding it.

and Curran counters with a shoot takedown. Flo fights it but they end up in guard.
Pat Curran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Flo.

Curran drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Curran jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Curran passes Flo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Curran is taking a breather. Flo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Curran uses his free foot to push down on Flo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Flo.

Flo is working to get back to half guard.
Flo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Curran with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Curran goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Flo is on top in guard.

Curran pushes Flo off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Flo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Curran as he jumps to the side.

Curran drops Flo with a left and a right! Oh, Flo is hurt - Curran dives into side control looking to finish!


It looks like Ken Flo has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Curran misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Curran is staying tight to Flo's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Flo pushes Curran off but Curran dives into side control.
Curran in side control, throwing shots but Flo defends.
Flo taking punishment in the form of punches.
Curran working the ground and pound but Flo is defending the strikes.
Curran controls the position.
Pat Curran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Pat Curran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pat Curran showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Curran has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
