PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Jimenez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Jimenez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Yang!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Yang.

Jimenez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Yang sprawls well initially but Jimenez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Yang is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Yang has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jimenez is working away from the top position though.
Yang is staying active underneath Jimenez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jimenez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

A short body shot lands from Yang as the two fighters clinch.

Yang manages to pull guard.
Yang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Yang pulls Jimenez in close to his closed guard and prevents Jimenez from doing any damage or advancing position.
Jimenez wants to control from the top but Yang keeps moving.
Yang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Yang looks gassed!

Yang is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jimenez is controlling him.

Yang looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Jimenez puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Jimenez is looking for a kimura but Yang is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jimenez to get the leverage.

Jimenez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yang keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jimenez is really struggling to control Yang but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Yang really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jimenez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jimenez in particular looking to stall.
Yang is looking for a sweep. Jimenez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jimenez thows a huge punch but Yang dodges it nicely.

Jimenez uses his free foot to push down on Yang's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Yang.

Yang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Yang tries to clinch up but Jimenez circles away and keeps his distance.

Jimenez tries to pull guard but Yang holds him up against the cage and eventually Jimenez drops back down to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jimenez is looking to take a break and control but Yang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Yang has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jimenez is working away from the top position though.

Yang pushes Jimenez off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yang swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Jimenez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Yang pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Yang drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jimenez tries to score a body lock takedown but Yang shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Yang is trying to maintain a safe position but Jimenez gets an underhook and turns Yang into the cage.
Yang wants a takedown but no success here.
Yang has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jimenez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

You can see the frustration on Yang's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Who's going to make the next move?
Jimenez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yang keeps working.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Yang is looking to regain half guard here but Jimenez keeps moving and retains side control.
Jimenez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Yang will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jimenez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fight stays on the outside here - Jimenez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jimenez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yang tries to avoid it but Jimenez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yang to the ground. Yang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Yang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Yang takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Yang jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jimenez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jimenez and Yang has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yang working away.
Yang remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Jimenez gets back to half guard.
Yang is thwarting Jimenez's attempts to control the position.
Yang takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Yang must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yang wants to pass the guard but Jimenez is keeping the position.
Yang sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jimenez's guard.
Yang wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jimenez keeps working.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jimenez is staying active underneath Yang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Yang decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Yang changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jimenez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dennis Jimenez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Yang is looking to take a break and control but Jimenez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yang just content to control the position.
Ray Yang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yang lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Jimenez down.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dennis Jimenez.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jimenez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
