Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Deshawn Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilliam Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Terminator. Deshawn Jackson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deshawn Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gilliam Howard!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jackson tries to clinch but Howard moves out of range.
Jackson fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jackson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Jackson shoots in but no luck this time.

Jackson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Howard can do anything to dispel that myth.
Howard is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jackson controlling from the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson throws a big right hand that misses.
Jackson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Howard is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jackson dives into side control.
Howard wants to control but Jackson postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jackson advances nicely into full mount.
Howard wants to control but Jackson is having none of it.
Howard might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Jackson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Howard manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on Howard's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A control attempt from Howard but he's now mounted!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jackson looking to ground and pound but Howard is blocking nicely.
Howard is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jackson trying to control but Howard is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Deshawn Jackson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Howard's guard.
Howard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Howard throws a hook but Jackson avoids it easily.
Howard throws an overhand right that lands on Jackson's shoulder, as Jackson tries to avoid the shot.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jackson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Howard misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jackson.
Jackson throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Jackson throws a looping overhand right but Howard ducks down to avoid it.
Jackson swings for the body but Howard moves out of range.

Jackson moves into the clinch.
Howard throws a punch but it's blocked by Jackson.
A head punch on the inside from Howard fails to land.
A short uppercut from Howard.
Howard lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Howard is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Howard has had enough of the clinch but Jackson keeps him there for the moment.
Jackson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Howard wants to break the clinch but can't.
Howard swings wildly with an uppercut but Jackson uses good head movement to avoid it.

Jackson successfully pulls guard.
Jackson wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Howard wants to stand and escape but instead Jackson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Howard not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Deshawn Jackson will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown but Howard shows good takedown defense.

Jackson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Howard controlling the position for now.
Howard is not content to let Jackson control the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson wants to stand but Howard has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jackson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Howard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Howard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Howard misses with a lunging right hand
and Jackson counters with a head kick. That will keep Howard thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Nice uppercut lands for Howard. That snapped Jackson's head back.
Howard swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Howard lands with a nice body punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Howard lands with a hook. Jackson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Jackson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Howard but Howard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Deshawn Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jackson scores with a one two! Howard had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Howard swats away the attempt to clinch by Jackson.

Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Howard paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jackson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Howard circles away.
Howard throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Howard scores with a crisp jab that stopped Jackson in his tracks.
Jackson is looking to clinch but Howard is avoiding it.
Jackson wants to clinch up but Howard keeps it at a distance.
Jackson lands with a kick to the ribs.
Howard circles away from the clinch attempt.

Gilliam Howard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
