PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Ennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zaq Wu Sang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wu Sang has chosen Europe - Rock the Night as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Ennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zaq Wu Sang!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ennis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ennis misses with a body shot.
Ennis thows a body shot but no joy.
Wu Sang takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Ennis on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Ennis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wu Sang circles away quickly and effectively.

Wu Sang gets a takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wu Sang is looking to advance position but Ennis won't allow it.
Ennis wants to control but Wu Sang is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ennis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Wu Sang is trying to control the action in half guard but Ennis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wu Sang not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Still in half guard, Wu Sang seems content to control.
Wu Sang is trying to control. Ennis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Wu Sang is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ennis!
Ennis wants to control but Wu Sang is having none of it.
Wu Sang is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ennis can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ennis is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wu Sang controlling the pace for now.

Wu Sang looking for a guillotine from mount but Ennis is having none of it.
Wu Sang avoids the attempt from Ennis to control.
Wu Sang lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ennis hang on?

Wu Sang wants to control the pace but Ennis is squirming around nicely.

Wu Sang trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ennis is trying to escape the mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wu Sang postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ennis looks a forlorn figure.
Ennis slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Ennis is trying to maintain the position but Wu Sang is very close to passing his half guard.
Wu Sang wants to pass the guard but Ennis is defending well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Wu Sang is working for a submission of some sort.
Wu Sang trying to control the pace.
Ennis wants to control but Wu Sang passes into side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wu Sang working the head with strikes.
Ennis is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Ennis wants to get back to full guard.

Ennis looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Wu Sang pushes past his half guard into mount!
Wu Sang lands a big elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ennis really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Wu Sang content just to control the position here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wu Sang in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zaq Wu Sang dominated that round.
That's time! Ennis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ennis takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Wu Sang scores with a shot to the body.
Wu Sang misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ennis.
Ennis looks to land a right hand but Wu Sang moved out of range.
Ennis uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wu Sang.
Wu Sang lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ennis at a distance.
Wu Sang is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Ennis rather than just go for the knockout.
Wu Sang ducks under a wild hook from Ennis.
Wu Sang cracks Ennis with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Wu Sang lands a body shot.
Ennis circles away from the clinch attempt.

Wu Sang moves into the clinch.
Ennis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wu Sang is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Wu Sang dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Ennis jumps guard but Wu Sang stands there with Ennis around his waist. Ennis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ennis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Ennis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wu Sang just leaning against Ennis, taking a breather.
Ennis goes for a takedown attempt but Wu Sang pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ennis. Wu Sang does a little dance to reset his feet.

Wu Sang closes the distance and pushes Ennis back into the cage.
Ennis is trying to drag Wu Sang to the mat but Wu Sang just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ennis fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ennis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wu Sang gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Wu Sang turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wu Sang manages to end up in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ennis can't do much from the bottom here.
Wu Sang content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Wu Sang wants to control but Ennis is keeping him busy.
Ennis is letting Wu Sang control him for a moment.

Ennis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Wu Sang in side control lands a decent elbow.
Ennis is looking to reverse the position.
Wu Sang creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Wu Sang lands a decent elbow from side control.
Ennis tries to improve position but can't.
Wu Sang in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Zaq Wu Sang has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wu Sang is looking to take a break and control but Ennis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Zaq Wu Sang has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Ennis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wu Sang changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wu Sang with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Ennis to score with a decent uppercut.

Wu Sang dives in and scores a takedown into Ennis's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zaq Wu Sang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Ennis looks to score with a jab to the body but Wu Sang is just out of range.
Ennis throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wu Sang stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Ennis throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ennis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wu Sang manages to avoid it.
The fighters circle momentarily. Wu Sang darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Zaq Wu Sang seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ennis misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Wu Sang counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ennis swings for the body but Wu Sang moves out of range.
Wu Sang lands a body shot.

Wu Sang feints and as Ennis raises his hands in defense, Wu Sang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wu Sang keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ennis's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ennis keeping moving, preventing Wu Sang from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wu Sang controlling from the top position.
Wu Sang trying to control the position from guard on top but Ennis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ennis is trying to escape back to his feet but Wu Sang uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Ennis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wu Sang wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

James Ennis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ennis pushes Wu Sang away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Wu Sang gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Ennis is not content to let Wu Sang control the position.
Check out the look on Wu Sang's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Ennis on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Wu Sang lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ennis down.
Wu Sang has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wu Sang working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Ennis is trying to improve his position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ennis seems a little lost for a moment, as Wu Sang dominates the positioning.

Zaq Wu Sang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wu Sang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
