PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Denis Prokopenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cris Dupont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Denis Prokopenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cris Dupont!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prokopenko has his takedown stuffed

and Dupont counters with a takedown into side control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Dupont lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Prokopenko is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here.

Dupont stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Prokopenko tries to clinch up but Dupont circles away and keeps his distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Prokopenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Dupont decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Prokopenko's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dupont controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Let's hope that Dupont has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Prokopenko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cris Dupont hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Dupont gets a double leg takedown into Prokopenko's guard.
Dupont content to stall in guard here.

Dupont thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Dupont is stalling in the full guard.
Dupont preventing the sweep.

Dupont decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Prokopenko, up you get!
Dupont fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No luck for Prokopenko with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Denis Prokopenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Prokopenko looks to land a combination but Dupont avoids it well.
Prokopenko is breathing heavily.

Dupont closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Dupont lands in his opponent's guard.
Dupont is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Prokopenko is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Prokopenko can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dupont controls the pace.
Prokopenko will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Dupont is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dupont stays in close to Prokopenko's body and controls the position.
Prokopenko looking for a sweep. Not yet Prokopenko, not yet.
Dupont seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Prokopenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cris Dupont wasn't active enough on the ground.

Dupont scores with a takedown into Prokopenko's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dupont is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cris Dupont dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Dupont shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cris Dupont hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Nice sprawl there from Prokopenko as Dupont shoots in.
Horrible takedown by Dupont or perhaps it was just good defense by Prokopenko which made him look bad.
Prokopenko displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dupont.
Denis Prokopenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cris Dupont.
Prokopenko tries to clinch there but Dupont circles away.

Prokopenko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Dupont displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Prokopenko.
Prokopenko stuffs the takedown attempt from Dupont. Dupont gets slowly back to his feet.
Prokopenko shoots in looking for a takedown. Dupont tries to sprawl out of it but Prokopenko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dupont manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Dupont counters with a nice double leg into side control. Prokopenko won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dupont has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Prokopenko is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Dupont yanks on the arm and Prokopenko is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Dupont.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Cris Dupont!
