The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barrett throws a shot to the body.

Barrett lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Da closes the distance and pushes Barrett back into the cage. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Barrett misses with the head strike.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Da connects with a nice short shot to Barrett's temple. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Da sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Da is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Barrett has managed to escape the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Da landing strikes, looking to finish! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Barrett really wants to buck Da off and get back to his feet. Da is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Barrett can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Da lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Barrett hang on? Barrett tries to lock up and control but Da gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Da lands a nice shot to the head. Da throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Da lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

John Barrett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Barrett swings for the body but Da moves out of range.

Barrett throws a nice looking combination but Da bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Barrett tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Da was well out of range. Poor timing from Barrett. Da fails in his attempt to clinch. Da takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Da feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Da stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barrett swivels though and keeps the full guard. Barrett keeping moving, preventing Da from controlling successfully. Da won't allow Barrett to get back to his feet. Da trying to control the position from guard on top but Barrett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barrett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Da. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Atilla Da just wasn't active enough. Barrett lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barrett throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Da shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barrett's guard. Da pushes down on Barrett's leg and manages to get into half guard. Barrett tries to roll over but Da keeps him under control. Da tries to pass to full mount but Barrett defends it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Well, if Da is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

He's being very persistent here but Barrett manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Atilla Da overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Da trying to control the position here. Barrett drops back looking for a leg! Da is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Da manages to kick Barrett off! Barrett jumps back into Da's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barrett is looking to stand up but Da won't let him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Da is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Barrett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Barrett. Da wants to control from the top but Barrett keeps moving. Barrett wants to stand up but Da is controlling him. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Barrett keeping moving, preventing Da from controlling successfully. That was a close second round but I would say that Atilla Da will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Atilla Da. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Da, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
