Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Belisle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Scott Smith! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belisle closes the distance and clinches. Smith has Belisle pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Belisle manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. A right handed body shot lands from Belisle.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Belisle is trying to trip Smith. He has hold of a leg but Smith is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Belisle persists though and gets the takedown into guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Belisle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Belisle pushing down on Smith's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Belisle lands strikes from half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Belisle working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Belisle scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Belisle missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Belisle thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Belisle passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Smith! Belisle with a couple of short strikes. Belisle lands a heavy elbow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Belisle working the ground and pound effectively.
Belisle working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Smith turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Belisle off and cradles Smith's limp body as Belisle celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Steve Belisle!
