Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tom Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Valesquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Ramblin' Gamblin' Man . Valesquez has chosen "Ratamahatta" by Sepultura as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson feints a jab promting Valesquez to slip. Johnson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Valesquez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Valesquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Johnson swats away the attempt to clinch by Valesquez. Valesquez slips a jab and a cross from Johnson.
Johnson throws a right and a left that Valesquez avoids nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Johnson. No joy for Valesquez on that attempt. Valesquez shoots in but no luck this time. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Valesquez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Valesquez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Valesquez tries to clinch but Johnson is having none of it. Valesquez throws the left hand but Johnson avoids the punch easily. Johnson scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Valesquez loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Tom Johnson will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Valesquez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Valesquez prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet. Johnson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Valesquez drops back looking for a leg! Johnson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Johnson manages to kick Valesquez off! Valesquez jumps back into Johnson's guard. Valesquez pushes down on Johnson's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Valesquez wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well. Valesquez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Valesquez eventually gives up the hold. Johnson tries to kick Valesquez off but Valesquez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Johnson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valesquez on the ground. Valesquez is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Valesquez to get the leverage. Valesquez seems to be looking for submissions.

Valesquez shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Johnson lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Valesquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Johnson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Valesquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fabricio Valesquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Johnson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No joy there for Johnson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
