Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kefka Polazzo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Erickson! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Erickson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Polazzo is looking for a sweep. Erickson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Polazzo manages to get back to half guard. Polazzo is looking for a sweep. Erickson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Polazzo is pressing down on Erickson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Erickson pushing down on Polazzo's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Polazzo actively working from the bottom here. Polazzo wants to improve his position but Erickson is controlling well.
Polazzo is refusing to be controlled, as Erickson sits in half guard. Polazzo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Polazzo. Erickson stopping the sweep attempt from Polazzo. Erickson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Erickson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Erickson looking to pass the guard. Erickson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Polazzo is trying to get back to half guard. Erickson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Polazzo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Erickson looks gassed! Erickson tries for a kimura but Polazzo is defending well. Polazzo tries to bench press Erickson off him but Erickson keeps the position. Erickson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Polazzo has escaped the position, nice work there. Polazzo is looking to regain half guard here but Erickson keeps moving and retains side control.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Polazzo misses with a takedown and Erickson counters with a shoot takedown. Polazzo fights it but they end up in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Polazzo working for a triangle but Erickson defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Erickson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Polazzo had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Erickson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Polazzo Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Erickson's back instead. Erickson tries to escape the position.
Polazzo working for a choke but Erickson is defending well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Polazzo is trying to stick to Erickson's back but Erickson is turning into Polazzo. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Polazzo's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Erickson. Erickson forces his way into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Erickson passes to full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Erickson looking to secure an arm triangle but Polazzo defends it well. Polazzo is trying to escape the mount.
Erickson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Erickson working for a guillotine from mount but Polazzo is in no mood to give up. Erickson with good strikes from the mount here! Polazzo is looking to get to half guard. Polazzo is working hard here to advance position. Erickson swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
