PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jp Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koichi Kamei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benn's entrance music is Icarus by Hopesfall. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Koichi Kamei!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benn throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Benn's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kamei connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Benn scrambles back to his feet.
Kamei misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kamei listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Benn throws a low kick but Kamei avoids it.
A lazy left from Benn finds it's target.
Kamei thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kamei misses with an uppercut. Benn saw that one coming.
Kamei stuffs the takedown attempt from Benn. Benn gets slowly back to his feet.
Kamei's jab looks to have found its range, popping Benn under the eye.

and Benn counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Benn has closed the distance and engaged Kamei in a clinch.
Kamei lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Benn blocks a punch to the side of the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kamei.
Kamei is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Benn is defending well for now.
Benn tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kamei just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kamei must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kamei has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Benn is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Koichi Kamei wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kamei scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Nice takedown defense from Kamei. No joy for Benn on that attempt.
Benn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kamei is fending him off so far but Benn persists. Nope, Kamei circles away and we're back to standing.

Kamei moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Benn tries to bum rush Kamei with a series of wild strikes but Kamei uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Koichi Kamei is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Benn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Koichi Kamei seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kamei takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kamei misses the jab.
Kamei swings widly with a right hand
and Benn counters with a series of strikes. Kamei will be more careful next time no doubt.

Koichi Kamei showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Benn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kamei throws a hook to the side of Benn's head but Benn sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Benn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kamei manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kamei punishes Benn's body with a nice straight punch.
Kamei takes a swing at Benn's ribcage but misses.
Kamei checks a low kick from Benn.
Kamei misses with a body kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Benn.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kamei fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Benn.
Jp Benn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kamei swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

And that's the end of the fight!
Koichi Kamei comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kamei winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
