The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Sliva misses.
Thompson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sliva.
Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sliva.

and Thompson counters with a shoot takedown. Sliva fights it but they end up in guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Thompson throwing strikes but missing.
Thompson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sliva wants to sweep but no luck.
Thompson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Cole Thompson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sliva connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Thompson momentarily.

Sliva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Thompson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sliva tries to get to full guard but Thompson has control of the leg.
Sliva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thompson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Thompson is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Thompson maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Sliva could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Thompson has cracked it and Sliva is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Thompson!
