Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dominick Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dzamal Dzamalov! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A low kick from Dzamalov misses and Cruz counters with a head kick. That will keep Dzamalov thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Cruz lands with a slapping head kick. Dominick Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cruz fails to land the takedown. Cruz closes the distance and clinches up with Dzamalov, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes Dzamalov against the cage but Dzamalov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Cruz fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Nice uppercut lands for Cruz. That snapped Dzamalov's head back.
Cruz throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Cruz lands with a slapping head kick. Cruz clobbers Dzamalov with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Cruz connects with a looping right hand.
The fighters circling - Cruz throws out the jab but it was never going to land. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cruz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dzamalov eats them both and turns towards Cruz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dzamalov throws a leg kick but Cruz sees it coming and checks it nicely. Cruz scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Cruz connects with a looping right hand.
Cruz shoots for a takedown but Dzamalov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dominick Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cruz is defended easily by Dzamalov. Cruz throws a jab but it's blocked by Dzamalov. Dzamalov slaps away a takedown attempt from Cruz, before circling back to the center of the mat. Cruz throws a jab but it's blocked by Dzamalov.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dzamalov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cruz. Cruz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dzamalov is trying to defend but Cruz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Cruz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dzamalov sees it coming and defends easily. Cruz is looking to advance position but Dzamalov won't allow it. Cruz seems to be looking for submissions.

Dzamalov walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Dzamalov throws a low kick but Cruz moves out of range easily. Cruz lands with a kick to the temple. Dzamalov shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Dzamalov blocks a head kick by Cruz.
A low kick from Dzamalov is predictable there and Cruz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dzamalov! Cruz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Dzamalov to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Dzamalov shrugs it off. Cruz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Dzamalov is in all sorts of trouble here.

Cruz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Dzamalovs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Cruz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dzamalov eats them both and turns towards Cruz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Cruz shoots in and drives through. Dzamalov sprawls well. Cruz checks a leg kick nicely. Cruz connects with a jab. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cruz. A head kick from Cruz lands but Dzamalov takes it in his stride.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cruz is defended easily by Dzamalov. Cruz misses with a right hand and Dzamalov counters with an outside leg kick.

Dzamalov thows a leg kick but Cruz checks it and Cruz counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dzamalov is lucky that one didn't land flush. Cruz looks to throw the jab but Dzamalov is out of range. Good leg kick by Dzamalov there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Dzamalov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Cruz throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Cruz shoots in and drives through. Dzamalov sprawls well. Cruz checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Cruz is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cruz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Cruz shoots and misses and Dzamalov counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cruz's knee momentarily. Dzamalov fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Cruz checks it well. Cruz throws a right and a left that both miss. Dzamalov throws a leg kick that misses. Dzamalov throws a leg kick but Cruz sees it coming and checks it nicely. Cruz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dzamalov circles away. Cruz misses with the combination.
Dzamalov does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cruz blocks a leg kick. Dzamalov ducks under a wild hook from Cruz. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Dzamalov tries to buck Cruz off but Cruz is having none of it. Cruz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Cruz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Cruz tries for a kimura but Dzamalov is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dzamalov is trying to get back to half guard. Cruz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dzamalov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Dzamal Dzamalov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Dominick Cruz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Cruz trying to control the position but Dzamalov is working away.
And that's the end of the fight! Dominick Cruz showed his dominance in that final round. Well Cruz has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
