PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Callahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caesar Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Callahan comes to the ring accompanied by Everybody Wants To Rule The World. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Callahan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Caesar Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callahan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Diaz feints and then cracks Callahan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Callahan down.
Diaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Callahan.
A slapping body kick lands there for Diaz.
Diaz connects with a high kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Diaz scores with a jab.
Diaz throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Diaz tries a head kick but it misses.
Diaz misses with a body kick.
Callahan lands an overhand right.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Callahan napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Callahan keeps Diaz under control for a moment.
Callahan sneaks back into half guard.
Callahan trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Callahan wants to get back to his feet.
Callahan wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Callahan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diaz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diaz's back!
Will Callahan go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Diaz avoids the strikes from Callahan.
Diaz is trapped and Callahan is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Even with his hooks in, Callahan manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A lull in the action here.
Callahan lands strikes to the head.
Callahan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Diaz looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Callahan lands with a hammerfist to the side of Diaz's head.
Callahan lands a shot to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Callahan is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Diaz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Diaz just trying to survive but Callahan is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Diaz rolls, trying to escape but Callahan keeps control of the position.
Callahan throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Diaz!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Callahan is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

Diaz trying to control but not successfully.
Diaz tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Callahan working the ground and pound effectively.
Diaz wants to control but Callahan is having none of it.
Diaz is trying desperately to improve position.
Callahan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Callahan lands a big elbow.
The referee warns Diaz that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Callahan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Diaz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Diaz tries to hold on but Callahan postures up.
Diaz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Callahan pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Diaz wants to hold on but Callahan pushes him away.
Callahan sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Callahan trying to control but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz tries to lock up and control but Callahan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Diaz is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's five minutes gone in the round.

Callahan working for a guillotine from mount but Diaz is in no mood to give up.
Callahan looking to finish Diaz with some ground and pound. This is bad for Diaz!
Callahan lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


Diaz is rocked!
Diaz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Diaz is still in real trouble! Can Callahan finish him?
Callahan lands a big elbow - Diaz is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Diaz is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Thomas Callahan!
