PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Hurl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Hurl!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silver tries to clinch but Hurl is having none of it.
Hurl avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Silver changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hurl looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Silver is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hurl is trying to strike from the bottom but Silver has passed into full mount.
Hurl is looking to improve his position but Silver isn't that keen on the idea.

Hurl has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Silver seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hurl for as long as he can get away with.

Silver could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hurl is looking to improve his position but Silver isn't that keen on the idea.

Silver's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Hurl is desperately trying to improve his position but Silver has a good base and remains in mount.

Silver tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hurl is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hurl sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Silver is working for a submission of some sort.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hurl wants to get back to full guard.

Hurl is looking to control Silver's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hurl avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hurl wants to get back to full guard.
Silver frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Silver lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Hurl is trying desperately to improve position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silver landing strikes, looking to finish!
Hurl tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Silver breaks from Hurl's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Silver has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hurl is wriggling around trying to escape.
Silver trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Silver controlling from the full mount.
Silver fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Hurl takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Silver takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hurl regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jordan Silver dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hurl changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silver tries to avoid it but Hurl manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silver to the ground. Silver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Silver shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hurl eats them both and turns towards Silver to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

and Silver counters with a body kick.
Hurl shoots in looking for a takedown but Silver manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hurl's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jordan Silver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Hurl.

and Silver counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Silver lands a slapping body shot.

Silver manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hurl on his heels. He'll look to pass Hurl's guard now, I'm sure.

Hurl has his foot on Silver's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silver works his way back into a safe position though.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hurl tries to lock up and control but Silver gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hurl can't escape the position.

Hurl slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Hurl is pressing down on Silver's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Silver advances to half guard.

Silver is nestled in close to Hurl, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Silver is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hurl manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Silver stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hurl swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Silver wants to control from the top but Hurl keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jordan Silver just wasn't active enough.
Silver lands a body shot.
Silver looks to land a combination. Hurl sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hurl looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Silver is fending him off so far but Hurl persists. Nope, Silver circles away and we're back to standing.

and Silver cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hurl tries for a takedown but Silver sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Silver shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hurl napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Hurl is working to avoid the ground and pound but Silver connects with a decent elbow.

Silver can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hurl is looking to escape.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hurl is desperately trying to improve his position but Silver has a good base and remains in mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Silver's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Silver takes the fight into the clinch.
Silver lands a hook that snaps the head of Hurl backwards.
Hurl wants a takedown but no success here.
Silver makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Hurl tries for a takedown. No joy.

Silver gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hurl.
Jordan Silver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Hurl.
Hurl is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Silver gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hurl takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hurl tries to score a body lock takedown but Silver shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Silver lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hurl or not.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Silver.
Silver lands a body punch.
Silver lands with a light punch inside.
A short uppercut from Silver.
Silver works on Hurl's body with a couple of short punches.
Silver manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Silver has Hurl pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Silver pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hurl tumbling to the mat - Silver dives into Hurl's guard.

Hurl is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silver in particular looking to stall.

Hurl shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silver sprawls well. Silver wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hurl gets slowly back to his feet.

Hurl is trying to drag Silver to the mat but Silver just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

John Hurl has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hurl drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Silver lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Silver scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Silver has hold of one of Hurl's legs. Hurl is fighting the takedown attempt but Silver gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Silver with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Silver got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hurl has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silver has managed to get both his arms back between Hurl's legs - danger averted.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jordan Silver showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Silver has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
