Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dana Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Black has chosen Onward to Victory as his entrance music. Dana Black acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Derek Patterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dana Black! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Black swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Black is trying to drag Patterson to the mat but Patterson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there. Patterson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Patterson manages to end up in side control. Patterson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Black keeps working. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Patterson tries to move into full mount but can't pass Black's legs. Black is not content to let Patterson control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson tries for a kimura but Black is defending well. A bit of a lull in the action here. Patterson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Black. Patterson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Patterson throws a low kick but Black moves out of range easily. Patterson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Black tries to score a power double leg takedown but Patterson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Black somewhat. Derek Patterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dana Black. Patterson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Patterson tightens his grip and picks Black up, before dumping him to the ground. Black manages to land in guard. Patterson controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We're going to have a standup here because Derek Patterson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Black misses with a double jab.
Patterson works Black's body with a nice hook. Black looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Patterson is fending him off so far but Black persists. Nope, Patterson circles away and we're back to standing. Dana Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Black tests Patterson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Patterson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patterson wants it to stay on the feet. Patterson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Black paws at him with a jab and circles away. Black shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Patterson napping and manages to drive through into side control! The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Black goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Patterson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Black but great work by Patterson. Black looks gassed! Patterson slows the pace down. Patterson tries to score with some ground and pound. Black controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Patterson is staying tight to Black's torso, preventing him from escaping. Black is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Patterson is one step ahead and moves to full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patterson tries to clinch up. Black with a poor takedown and Patterson counters with a nice double leg into guard. Black can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Patterson controls the pace. Black trying to keep a closed guard but Patterson is proving a slippery customer.
Patterson tries to stand but Black is controlling from the bottom. Patterson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Black tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patterson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Black shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Patterson as he jumps to the side. Black keeps the fight on the outside. Black shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Patterson but Patterson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Derek Patterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dana Black. A left lands for Black. Patterson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Black but Black pushes him off and we're back to square one. Patterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Patterson lands in his opponent's guard. Black tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Patterson postures up.

Derek Patterson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Patterson clinches up against the ropes. Patterson has clasped his hands together around Black's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. You can see the frustration on Black's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Patterson trying to control the position but Black is working away. Patterson tries to score with some ground and pound. Black controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Black is not content to let Patterson control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Black is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Black is not content to let Patterson control the position. Patterson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Black is avoiding damage well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patterson moves into the clinch. Black jumps guard but Patterson stands there with Black around his waist. Black gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

It looks like Dana Black has been cut. Patterson goes for a takedown attempt but Black pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Patterson thows a big elbow that misses. Patterson trying to control but Black is working from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derek Patterson. Black stuffs the takedown. Black blocks a leg kick. Black misses with a straight right. A big left from Black misses. Patterson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Black throws a big shot that misses. Black misses with a body shot.
Black misses with an uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Black is defended easily by Patterson. Patterson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Patterson throws a sloppy head kick and Black moves out of range easily. Patterson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Patterson is pressing down on Black's thigh, looking to free his foot. Black is holding on for now. Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Patterson wants to take a breather but Black is having none of it. Patterson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Derek Patterson just wasn't active enough. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Patterson, right into the meat.
Patterson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derek Patterson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Black takes the fight into the clinch. Black has Patterson pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Patterson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Dana Black has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Black jumps guard but Patterson stands there with Black around his waist. Black gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Black takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Patterson jumps guard.
Patterson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Black must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Patterson throwing short punches from the bottom. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Patterson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Black's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Black is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that's the end of the fight! Derek Patterson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Patterson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
