The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rabbit's half guard. Rabbit is breathing heavily. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Alexander decides to return to a standing position. Alexander looks to land a combination. Rabbit sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Alexander clinches with his opponent.
Rabbit wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Alexander escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alexander is a very stocky fighter. Infact he's such a weird shape that he's almost like some sort of comedy character - it's hard to believe he's real. Alexander cracks Rabbit with a good jab. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alexander changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rabbit looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Alexander content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Rabbit really is a fat lump.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander looks up at the clock and then as Rabbit takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alexander smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Alexander creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Alexander is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rabbit will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Alexander stands up and we're back to a striking position. Alexander drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alexander with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Alexander's corner is telling him to maintain position. Let's hope that Alexander has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. It looks like Alexander might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The ref stands the fighters back up. Rondon Alexander was stalling too much, according to the referee. Alexander lands the left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rabbit get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Rabbit stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Alexander runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:07 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rondon Alexander!
