The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Khan throws a hook but McCarthy avoids it easily. McCarthy looks for a takedown but Khan sprawls well. McCarthy shoots in and drives through. Khan sprawls well. Khan lands a jab. McCarthy takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. McCarthy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Khan but Khan pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan McCarthy. That's going to take a lot out of him. McCarthy slips a jab and a cross from Khan.
Khan throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Khan scores with a body shot.
McCarthy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Khan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Khan misses with an uppercut. and McCarthy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Khan's guard now. Khan looks gassed! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. McCarthy trying to stand up but can't free himself from Khan's guard. McCarthy works a leg free and moves into half guard. McCarthy wants to take a breather but Khan is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McCarthy stalling.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Ryan McCarthy just wasn't active enough. Khan throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Some wild striking there from Khan.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McCarthy is trying to control. Khan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
