Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Cook! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nate Great! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cook shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Great has hold of Cook's hands but Cook slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Great is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cook pulls his head out easily. The fighters are battling for position here. Great manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Cook throwing strikes but missing. Great keeping full guard, as Cook tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cook accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Great had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cook defends it easily. Cook has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Cook stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Great swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Great throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cook passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Great is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Cook looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Cook is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Cook knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Great on the ground. Great wants to control but Cook is keeping busy.
Cook tries to pass the half guard into mount. Great knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Great moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Great working for a triangle but Cook defends it easily.
Cook is posturing up here but Great has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Cook tries to roll out but it's too tight and Cook has to tap! Slick submission there by Great!
