The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas with a poor takedown
and Silva counters with a shoot takedown. Thomas fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Silva stands up from Thomas's guard - Silva perhaps looking for a knockout.
Thomas misses with a takedown attempt
and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Thomas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Thomas is keeping the position.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thomas on the ground.
Thomas has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Silva doesn't defend quickly enough and Thomas has managed to lock this one up! Can Silva escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Thomas on a fantastic submission victory.
