PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bro Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Doherty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee comes into the arena with Enter the Dragon blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Doherty's choice of entrance music: You can't stand me now. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bro Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Doherty!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Doherty crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Lee - the referee stops the clock and Doherty gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Lee. Doherty manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick and Doherty moves out of range easily.
Lee fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Doherty is out of range.
Doherty throws a shot from downtown. Lee moves away and avoids it.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Lee checks a leg kick.
Doherty walks forward, straight into a front kick from Lee.
Sloppy strikes from Doherty. Those never looked like landing.
Lee looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
A low kick from Lee misses
and Doherty counters with a head kick. That will keep Lee thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Lee lands a glancing blow to the side of Doherty's head.
Lee is looking to land body kicks.

Doherty shoots in for a double leg but Lee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lee tried to score with a low kick but Doherty checks it.
Bro Lee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lee misses with the combination.
Doherty lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Lee's corner calls for a 1-2. Lee obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Doherty throws a big shot that misses.

Nice uppercut there from Lee.
Doherty takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
A nice inside leg kick there by Lee. That's going to slow Doherty down.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lee lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Doherty closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Doherty scores with a shot to the side of Lee's head.
Doherty misses with a hook to the ribs.
Doherty tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

With the fighters up against the cage, Lee throws an elbow but misses.
Doherty misses with a punch to the body.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Doherty sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lee's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Doherty is nestled in close to Lee, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Lee is looking to slow Doherty down with leg kicks.
Doherty throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lee sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lee finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Lee pushes Doherty away with a front kick.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick and Doherty moves out of range easily.
Lee throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice defenses there by Doherty.
Lee misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Doherty ducks under a wild hook from Lee.

Lee throws a big shot that misses.
Lee throws a shot to the body.
A punch combination from Doherty misses.
A big left from Lee misses.
Lee misses with a low kick.
Lee throws a leg kick
and Doherty counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Lee goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lee finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

An inside leg kick from Lee misses.
Doherty tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lee sizes up Doherty with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Lee fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lee scores with a kick to the body.
Doherty connects with a crisp jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Doherty throws a leg kick but Lee moved away.
Lee throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Lee misses with a looping right.
Doherty is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.

Lee pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Doherty shoots for a double leg takedown but Lee sprawls well. He's pushed Doherty's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Lee wants to stand and escape but Doherty is having none of it.

Lee wants to control but Doherty is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Doherty is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.
Doherty thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lee's head.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Bro Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee cracks the inside of Doherty's front leg.
Lee lands with a kick to the temple. Doherty shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Doherty closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lee's guard.
Doherty trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Doherty wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Doherty is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lee looking for a sweep. Not yet Lee, not yet.
Lee utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lee wants to sweep but no luck.
Doherty is in close to Lee's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doherty is one step ahead there.
Doherty looking to sit in guard and control but Lee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Doherty is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lee defends well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lee wants to stand but Doherty is controlling his posture from full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Doherty has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Lee doesn't defend quickly enough and Doherty has managed to lock this one up! Can Lee escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Doherty on a fantastic submission victory.
