The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ali sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nelson somewhat. Nelson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Ali rushes Nelson and presses him up against the cage. Nelson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ali's efforts to push away. Ali pulls guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Nelson looking to pass the guard. Ali has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nelson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Nelson is looking to work some ground and pound but Ali has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Ali manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ali trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nelson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Ali really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nelson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ali trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom. Ali must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Nelson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Basit Ali has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Ali gets a takedown into half guard. Ali is trying to control. Nelson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are battling for position here. Nelson manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Ali wants to stand but Nelson is controlling his posture from full guard. Ali seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Ali doesn't defend quickly enough and Nelson has managed to lock this one up! Can Ali escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Nelson on a fantastic submission victory.
