Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gaurav Newbury! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Maplesden! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, William Gold and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maplesden gets caught napping as Newbury dives in and scores a takedown. Maplesden manages to retain guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Newbury working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Newbury missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Newbury is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maplesden is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maplesden has escaped and now he's on top! Maplesden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Maplesden scoring with some ground and pound. Maplesden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Maplesden pushing down on Newbury's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Maplesden decides to return to a standing position. Maplesden has closed the distance and engaged Newbury in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Newbury tries a body shot but Maplesden blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Maplesden fails with the takedown and Newbury counters with a shoot takedown. Maplesden fights it but they end up in guard. Newbury has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Maplesden is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maplesden is thwarting Newbury's attempts to control the position. Newbury keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Maplesden lands a nice short elbow. Maplesden sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Newbury defending well though. Newbury is trying to control but can't.
Newbury is looking to get back to full guard here but Maplesden has managed to pass to side control instead. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Newbury stops Maplesden from passing to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maplesden decides to take the fight back to the feet. Maplesden tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Maplesden throws a body kick that misses. Maplesden misses with a double jab.

Maplesden fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Maplesden looks to land a combination but Newbury avoids it well. Newbury doesn't manage to clinch there - Maplesden circles away.

Maplesden fails to land the takedown. Gaurav Newbury has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Maplesden.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newbury looks to land a combination. Maplesden sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Maplesden looks gassed! Maplesden wants to clinch. Maplesden tries for a takedown but Newbury sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Maplesden shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Newbury napping and manages to drive through into side control! Maplesden cracks Newbury with a big elbow. Maplesden fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Newbury stops Maplesden from passing to mount. Maplesden has control of an arm but Newbury manages to advance to Maplesden's back! So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Newbury has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Maplesden! Can he survive? No! He's out! Newbury gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
