Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aaron Messerchmid! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Georges St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Messerchmid tries to clinch so St Pierre counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Messerchmid keeping moving, preventing St Pierre from controlling successfully. Messerchmid looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! St Pierre has picked Messerchmid up and slammed him! Messerchmid can't keep hold of the triangle and St Pierre manages to pass to side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. St Pierre trying to control the position but Messerchmid is working away. Messerchmid looks to move to half guard but instead St Pierre has passed into mount! Damn! St Pierre landing strikes, looking to finish! Messerchmid tries to reverse the position but St Pierre maintains control. St Pierre controlling from mount. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. St Pierre swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Messerchmid is now in St Pierre's guard. A big mistake from St Pierre there, giving up the dominant position! St Pierre pulls Messerchmid in close to his closed guard and prevents Messerchmid from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Messerchmid trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. Messerchmid thows a big elbow that misses. Messerchmid trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Messerchmid postures up in St Pierre's guard and throws a big left but St Pierre blocks it. St Pierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Messerchmid is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Messerchmid loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Messerchmid throws a big right hand that misses. Messerchmid has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. St Pierre is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. St Pierre is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Messerchmid has his hands clasped together but St Pierre extends an breaks Messerchmid's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by St Pierre.
