Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Neer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Harper Pool! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Neer misses with the combination.
Neer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Pool counters by moving into the clinch. Neer pulls guard successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Neer wants to get back to his feet but Pool passes into half guard.
Pool perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Neer is trying to get back to full guard. Neer is trying to stand back up but Pool is controlling him
That's one minute gone in the round. Neer is defending against the submission attempts here by Pool.
Neer tries to get to full guard but Pool has control of the leg. Pool is trying to control the action in half guard but Neer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neer is trying to stand back up but Pool is controlling him
Pool trying to pass the guard but Neer defending well. Neer makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Neer. Neer looking for a sweep. Not yet Neer, not yet. Pool prevents Neer from getting back to his feet. Neer working a defensive guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Neer looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Josh Neer. Neer tries for a takedown but Pool circles away easily and Pool counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Neer's guard now. Pool looks gassed! Neer controlling Pool's posture. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Neer is on top in guard.
Neer stays in close to Pool's body and controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pool, up you get! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Neer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Neer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pool slaps away a takedown attempt from Neer, before circling back to the center of the mat. Neer misses with a low kick. Neer scores with a nice strike. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Neer lands with a shot to the body. Neer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Pool counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Neer's guard now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Josh Neer will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Pool shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Neer looking for submissions off his back. Neer is looking to escape. Neer is looking to control Pool's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Neer avoid being mounted? Neer gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Neer has his feet on Pool's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Pool is breathing heavily. Neer fails to land the takedown. Pool looks to clinch and Neer counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Neer. Pool is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Neer is defending well for now. Pool lands a nice shot to the body.

Neer wriggles free and stands up. Pool keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Pool tries to clinch up. Neer moves in looking to clinch but Pool pushes him off. Pool shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Neer pushes Pool off looking to stand but Pool dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pool tries to stand but can't do so whilst Neer controls his leg. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Neer looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Neer is trying to stand back up but Pool is controlling him
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neer looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Neer is trying to stand up here but Pool is controlling him well. Neer is looking for a sweep. Pool is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Neer is concentrating on defense, preventing Pool from advancing position. Neer is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Neer dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Neer shoots in but Pool avoids the takedown attempt easily. Neer pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Neer tries for a takedown but Pool circles away easily and Pool counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Neer! Neer slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Neer is looking for a sweep. Pool is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Pool works his way into full mount! Neer can't escape the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neer sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Pool is trying to control. Neer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Pool is looking to advance position but Neer won't allow it. Neer tries to kick Pool off but Pool keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Neer has one foot on Pool's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Josh Neer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sloppy strikes from Neer. Those never looked like landing. Neer looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Josh Neer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pool drops his hands momentarily and Neer takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Neer shoots for a takedown but Pool saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Neer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pool doesn't manage to clinch there - Neer circles away.
Neer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pool stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Neer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Neer with a lazy takedown attempt and Pool moves into the clinch. Neer managing to block the knees to the body from Pool.
Neer lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Pool backwards. Neer blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Neer is struggling to control the position. Neer looking for a takedown. Pool is trying to break the clinch but Neer is controlling him. Neer stalling the fight.
Neer avoiding damage as Pool throws knees to the body.
Pool prevents a takedown attempt there.
Neer gets control of Pool's arms and successfully pulls guard. Neer will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pool stops Neer from standing up. Neer wriggles free and stands up. Josh Neer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Pool tries a head kick but it misses.
Neer drives through with a takedown into Pool's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Neer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Harper Pool has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pool keeping full guard, as Neer tries to pass.
And that's the end of the fight! Josh Neer showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Neer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
