PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Crafty Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel da Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Crafty Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gabriel da Silva!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
da Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dog as he avoids it easily.
Dog swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
da Silva walks into a straight right hand from Dog.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Dog rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but da Silva moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

da Silva rushes Dog and presses him up against the cage.
Dog trying to control the position but instead, da Silva has worked for underhooks and has pushed Dog into the cage.

da Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

da Silva moves into the clinch.
da Silva's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Dog really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
da Silva lands a body punch in the clinch.
da Silva tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Dog's elbow.

da Silva manages to break the clinch.
Dog waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract da Silva.
Dog uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before da Silva has time to react.
da Silva tries to bum rush Dog with a series of wild strikes but Dog uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dog thows a body shot but no joy.

da Silva ducks right into an uppercut from Dog.

da Silva gets a takedown into half guard.

da Silva looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dog with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dog looks like he's trying to stand up.

Still in half guard, da Silva seems content to control.
Dog tries to kick da Silva off but da Silva keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
da Silva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gabriel da Silva hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Dog wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dog keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
da Silva throws a series of strikes that have Dog backpedaling.

Dog forces da Silva back against the cage and clinches.
Dog drops down looking for an ankle pick but da Silva pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dog just misses with a punch to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dog is trying to break the clinch but da Silva has him pressed against the cage.
da Silva stalling.
Dog's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Dog is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
da Silva gets through Dog's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

da Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Left hook, right uppercut from Dog.


It looks like Gabriel da Silva has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dog lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but da Silva circles away quickly and effectively.

da Silva throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

da Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dog gets caught flat footed, as da Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

da Silva decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Dog stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
da Silva is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Dog is breathing heavily.

Dog rushes da Silva and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, da Silva creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dog tries to circle away but da Silva has him pinned against the cage.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
da Silva lands a nice shot to the body.
da Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dog tries to avoid it but da Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dog to the ground. Dog escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dog connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Dog dodges the punch combination from da Silva.
Dog throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A big left from Dog misses.
Dog scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short right from da Silva on the inside.
Dog is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
da Silva is pushing Dog up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

da Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dog fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with da Silva, pushing him back against the cage.
Dog jumps guard but da Silva stands there with Dog around his waist. Dog gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

da Silva breaks from the clinch.
Crafty Dog is winning the standup battle so far.
Sloppy strikes from Dog. Those never looked like landing.

da Silva gets a clinch.

Dog is rocked!
Stalling in the clinch from da Silva.
Oh Dog is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
da Silva digs a right hand underneath Dog's ribcage. Dog let out a lung full of air as it connected.

da Silva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
da Silva connects with a stiff jab that staggers Dog - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Gabriel da Silva!
