PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eikichi Onizuka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Wilkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eikichi Onizuka looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eikichi Onizuka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andy Wilkinson!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilkinson tries to clinch up

and Onizuka counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wilkinson!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wilkinson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Onizuka cracks Wilkinson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


It looks like Andy Wilkinson has been cut.
Wilkinson is trying desperately to improve position.
Onizuka has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Wilkinson's face.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wilkinson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Onizuka is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Wilkinson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Onizuka postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wilkinson looks a forlorn figure.


That has opened up Andy Wilkinson's cut even more.

Wilkinson tries to reverse the position but Onizuka maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilkinson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Wilkinson wants to control from the top but Onizuka keeps moving.

Wilkinson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Onizuka is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Onizuka has escaped and now he's on top!

Onizuka throws and elbow that misses. Wilkinson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Onizuka's guard. Nice move by Wilkinson!

Wilkinson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Onizuka is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wilkinson, into his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wilkinson has his foot on Onizuka's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Onizuka works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Onizuka stands up over Wilkinson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.


The cut above Andy Wilkinson's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Wilkinson has momentary wrist control but Onizuka slips an elbow through the middle.

Andy Wilkinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Onizuka counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wilkinson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wilkinson.
Onizuka has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wilkinson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Wilkinson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Onizuka defends it easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Onizuka counters by moving into the clinch.

Onizuka has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wilkinson uses from the top position.
Wilkinson wants to pass the guard but Onizuka is keeping the position.

Wilkinson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Onizuka dives on top into guard.

Wilkinson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Onizuka lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Wilkinson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Eikichi Onizuka overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wilkinson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Onizuka is looking to escape.

The fighters are battling for position here. Onizuka manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Onizuka knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilkinson on the ground.
Wilkinson stands and throws Onizuka's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wilkinson advances to full mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eikichi Onizuka will probably get the nod.

Andy Wilkinson's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Andy Wilkinson's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
