PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Chris Silvers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Petri Nieminen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silvers comes to the cage accompanied by Con te Partiro. Nieminen has chosen Born an OG as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Petri Nieminen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chris Silvers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Petri Nieminen!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silvers shoots in for a double leg but Nieminen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Silvers keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Silvers closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Silvers lands in his opponent's guard.
Nieminen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silvers stopping the sweep attempt from Nieminen.
Nieminen can't keep his opponent in guard - Silvers advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nieminen manages to get to full guard.
Silvers won't allow Nieminen to sweep him here.
Nieminen is trying to control the position but Silvers postures up.
Nieminen can't keep his opponent in guard - Silvers advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Nieminen wants to control but Silvers is keeping busy.
Nieminen tries to get to full guard but Silvers has control of the leg.

Silvers stops Nieminen from getting back to his feet.

Silvers is working for a kimura but Nieminen is defending it quite comfortably.

Silvers wants to work for an arm triangle but Nieminen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Silvers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Silvers is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Nieminen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Nieminen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silvers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silvers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nieminen looks gassed!

Silvers is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nieminen is trying to keep Silvers in close.
Silvers would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Nieminen is looking to sweep but instead, Silvers has passed into half guard.
Silvers is trying to control the action in half guard but Nieminen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Silvers passes to side control.
Silvers trying to control the position but Nieminen is working away.
Nieminen tries to bench press Silvers off him but Silvers keeps the position.

Silvers decides to stand back up. Silvers steps back and let's Nieminen get back to his feet.
Silvers takes a jab right on the kisser.
Silvers blocks a head kick by Nieminen.
Nieminen moves out of range as Silvers throws a body kick.

Nieminen shoots and misses

and Silvers counters by clinching up.
Silvers is trying to stall.
Silvers tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nieminen smiles and moves away.
Silvers is looking to clinch but Nieminen is avoiding it.
Silvers is looking to clinch but Nieminen is avoiding it.
Nieminen misses with the combination.
Silvers fails in his attempt to clinch.
Silvers tries to close the distance and clinch but Nieminen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silvers shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Nieminen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Silvers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silvers avoids a punch combination nicely.
Chris Silvers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silvers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nieminen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Silvers working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Silvers decides to stand back up.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Silvers has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Nieminen is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Silvers yanks on the arm and Nieminen is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Silvers.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chris Silvers!
