Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Forrest Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Coach! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Griffin.
Coach moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Coach clobbers Griffin with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Coach connects with a crisp jab. A cross from Coach lands. Coach's corner calls for a 1-2. Coach obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Griffin takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Griffin takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Griffin takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Griffin gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Griffin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Griffin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Coach counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffin misses with a double jab.
A big right from Griffin misses. Coach throws a series of punches but Griffin moves out of range. Griffin swings widly with a right hand
enabling Coach to counter with a crisp jab. Coach feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Coach throwing strikes from guard but Griffin blocks nicely. Coach is looking to work some ground and pound but Griffin has wrist control. Griffin is breathing heavily. Coach throws a strike but Griffin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Coach is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Coach postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Coach wants to pass the guard but Griffin is keeping the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coach accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. Coach loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Coach's corner. There ya go! There ya go! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Coach dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Coach wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Forrest Griffin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Coach avoids a punch combination nicely.
James Coach seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Coach lands a front kick. Coach bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Griffin's head. Coach with a nice cross. Coach takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Coach lands with a cross. This has been an exciting period of action! Coach clinches with his opponent.
Griffin prevents a body shot from Coach. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Coach escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

It looks like Forrest Griffin has been cut. Coach moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Coach. Coach has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Griffin takes a jab right on the kisser.
Griffin is rocked! Coach fails with an attempt to clinch.
Coach gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Coach lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Griffin backwards. Coach is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Griffin can't fight it off and eventually Coach manages to take the fight to the floor. Griffin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Coach stands and throws Griffin's legs to the side, diving into side control. Coach advances to full mount.

We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Griffin tries to get out of the position. Coach putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Coach tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Coach lands a big shot there that rocks Griffin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Oh Griffin is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Coach looking to control but Griffin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Griffin seems to have got his legs back now. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Coach unloading with bombs! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Coach showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Forrest Griffin's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A punch lands to the side of Griffin 's head but he takes it in his stride. Griffin has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Coach. Griffin tries to keep at a distance but Coach has taken the fight into the clinch. Coach pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Coach instigates a clinch. Coach escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Coach throws a nice looking combination but Griffin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Coach dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Coach bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Coach has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Coach working the body and head with strikes. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Griffin dodges the ground and pound from Coach.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coach in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Griffin takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Coach has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Coach working the ground and pound from side control.

Coach tries to score with some ground and pound. Griffin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Coach working the ground and pound but Griffin is defending the strikes. Coach connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Griffin some visible discomfort.
Coach misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Coach Rushes Griffin and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Griffin is up against the ropes and has nowhere to go. Coach Piles on the pressure and Griffin crumples to the floor! This one is all over!
