2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Toney! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Toney throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hewitt counters with a nice double leg into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hewitt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Hewitt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Toney wants to stand up but Hewitt is controlling him. Hewitt controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hewitt trying to control the position from guard on top but Toney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hewitt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Hewitt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Toney keeping full guard, as Hewitt tries to pass. Hewitt is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hewitt postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Toney is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hewitt, into his guard. Toney wanted to stand there but Hewitt had control of the position. Hewitt controlling the position. Hewitt has a closed guard, preventing Toney from standing up. Hewitt on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hewitt tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Toney wants to stand and escape but instead Hewitt has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Hewitt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Toney's head. Toney wants to stand but Hewitt is controlling the position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Toney preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Hewitt scoring with some ground and pound. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hewitt with a flurry of punches that miss. Hewitt looking to control the position here, rather than advance. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Toney utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Thomas Brown Hewitt dominated that round. That's time! Hewitt's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Hewitt thows a left - swing and a miss! Toney stuffs the takedown attempt from Hewitt. Hewitt gets slowly back to his feet. Hewitt fails to land the takedown. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Toney throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Hewitt showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Toney.
A telegraphed right hand from Hewitt misses the target. Hewitt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Toney lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Toney. Hewitt tries to bum rush Toney with a series of wild strikes but Toney uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Toney fails to land with a series of punches.
Hewitt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Toney circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Brown Hewitt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Toney displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hewitt. Hewitt is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Toney.

Hewitt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Toney pinned against the ropes. Toney gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Hewitt tries to clinch but Toney moves out of range. Toney misses with a few strikes there.
Hewitt scores with a takedown into Toney's guard. Toney is breathing heavily. Hewitt showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hewitt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Toney swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hewitt drops back, looking for a kneebar! Toney looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Toney looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Toney! Hewitt struggling a bit here. Toney tries to stand but Hewitt is controlling his head. Thomas Brown Hewitt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hewitt trying to control but Toney flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but James Toney will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Hewitt is looking to clinch. Toney keeps the fight on the outside. Hewitt misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas Brown Hewitt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. No joy there for Toney, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Toney swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Thomas Brown Hewitt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hewitt looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hewitt wants to pass the guard but Toney is keeping the position. Toney wants to stand up but Hewitt is controlling him. Toney keeping moving, preventing Hewitt from controlling successfully. Hewitt seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hewitt's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Hewitt advances to half guard. Hewitt is looking for a kimura but Toney is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hewitt to get the leverage. Hewitt tries to pass to full mount but Toney defends it. Toney wants to get back to his feet.
Toney takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Toney pushes Hewitt off but Hewitt dives into side control.
Toney being controlled for a moment. Hewitt tries for a kimura but Toney is defending well.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Toney on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Hewitt scoring with punches from side control. The crowd are loving this. Toney gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hewitt to score an easy takedown into full guard. Toney wants to stand and escape but Hewitt is having none of it. Hewitt showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hewitt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Hewitt is looking to work some ground and pound but Toney has wrist control. Hewitt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. Toney is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted. Hewitt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Toney knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Hewitt lands strikes from half guard. Hewitt stalling. Hewitt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hewitt looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Toney with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. This has been an exciting period of action! Hewitt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Toney knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Hewitt throwing shots but Toney is blocking nicely. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hewitt passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Toney! Thomas Brown Hewitt had his way with James Toney in that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Hewitt closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Toney to the mat! Toney manages to get full guard. Hewitt tries to free his leg and advance position but Toney is retaining full guard. Hewitt looking to sit in guard and control but Toney gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Toney is looking to stand up but Hewitt won't let him. Hewitt lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Toney! Toney is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell? Hewitt with the ground and pound from mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hewitt with a couple of short strikes. Hewitt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Hewitt lands a big elbow. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hewitt lands a big elbow. Thomas Brown Hewitt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Hewitt looking to control and managing it successfully. Hewitt's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Thomas Brown Hewitt. Hewitt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Toney being controlled for a moment.
