Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Volkan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Lovell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Volkan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Lovell!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkan connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lovell momentarily.

Lovell has Volkan up against the cage in a clinch.

Lovell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lovell throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Lovell tries for a takedown but Volkan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Volkan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lovell tries to clinch up.

Lovell fails with a takedown attempt.
Aaron Volkan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Lovell.
Lovell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Volkan pinned against the cage. Volkan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lovell needs to keep his hands up - Volkan had a free shot at his head there.
Lovell throws a head kick that misses
and Volkan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lovell ducks right into an uppercut from Volkan.

Lovell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lovell clinches up against the cage.
Volkan tries to circle away but Lovell has him pinned against the cage.
Volkan wants to get back to striking at distance but Lovell won't allow it.

Lovell jumps into guard, dragging Volkan to the mat.
Lovell is controlling Volkan's posture.
Volkan wants to get up but he can't break Lovell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Volkan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Volkan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Volkan connects with a jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lovell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Volkan as he avoids it easily.
Volkan uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lovell.
A head kick by Lovell misses
and Volkan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Lovell is looking to clinch.

Lovell has Volkan up against the cage in a clinch.
Volkan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Volkan wants a takedown.

Lovell breaks from the clinch.
Lovell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Lovell closes the distance and clinches up with Volkan, looking for a takedown. Lovell pushes Volkan against the cage but Volkan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Lovell wants to clinch.
Lovell throws a combination that misses
and Volkan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Volkan is breathing heavily.
Volkan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lovell sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lovell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lovell shoots in looking for a takedown but Volkan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lovell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Lovell wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Max Lovell will probably get the nod.
That's time! Volkan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lovell tries to clinch there but Volkan circles away.

Lovell shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Volkan napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Volkan gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Lovell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Lovell is working for a guillotine from mount but Volkan frees his head quite easily.

Lovell looking to secure an arm triangle but Volkan defends it well.
Lovell looking to control and managing it successfully.
Volkan tries to buck Lovell off but Lovell takes his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lovell lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Lovell.

Lovell is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Lovell working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Lovell is riding his opponent, not letting Volkan buck him off.
Volkan has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lovell really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Volkan.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Volkan trying to get back to his feet but Lovell is in full control for now.

Lovell is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Volkan is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Let's hope that Lovell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Max Lovell.

Lovell drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Lovell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Lovell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lovell misses with a head kick.
Volkan scores with the left hand. Lovell knows he should have avoided that one.
Volkan scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Lovell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lovell shoots in for a takedown but Volkan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Lovell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Volkan's waist but Volkan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lovell off to one side.
Lovell dives in and grabs Volkan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Volkan pushes down on Lovell's head and hops out.
Aaron Volkan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Lovell.

Lovell throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Volkan makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Lovell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lovell is looking to clinch.
Volkan misses with an uppercut. Lovell saw that one coming.
Max Lovell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lovell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Volkan swivels and escapes.
Volkan moves out of range of the body kick.

Lovell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lovell showed some decent athleticism there.
Aaron Volkan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Volkan wants to get back to his feet.
Lovell is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Lovell controlling the pace for now.
Lovell with shots to the head and body - Volkan looks very uncomfortable down there.
Volkan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lovell on the ground.

Lovell sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Volkan is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Lovell lands a big elbow.
Lovell raining down hammerfists from mount.
Lovell looking to control and managing it successfully.

Lovell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Volkan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Volkan shrugs it off.

Lovell breaks from Volkan's wrist control and lands an elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Volkan is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Lovell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Max Lovell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lovell lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Lovell moves to the back position.

Lovell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Max Lovell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lovell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
