Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bartosz Kornicki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Austin Rivers! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivers is looking to clinch. Kornicki looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Rivers cracks Kornicki with a right hand to the side of the head. Rivers works over Kornicki's head and body with a nice combination. Good shot there by Rivers. Rivers tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kornicki manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rivers fails in his attempt to clinch. Kornicki circles away from the clinch attempt and Kornicki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rivers's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Rivers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kornicki's guard. Kornicki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rivers on the ground. Rivers throwing strikes but missing. Rivers controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Rivers wants to control from the top but Kornicki keeps moving. Kornicki on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kornicki tries to get out of the position. Kornicki looking to control.
Rivers wants to get up but he can't break Kornicki's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Rivers looking to pass the guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Austin Rivers wasn't active enough on the ground. Rivers lands with a nice combination. Kornicki backs away looking to recover.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivers gets a clinch. Kornicki jumps guard and drags Rivers to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rivers scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Rivers is stalling in the full guard. Rivers drops back looking for a leg! Kornicki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kornicki manages to kick Rivers off! Rivers jumps back into Kornicki's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivers controls from within his opponent's guard. Rivers working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kornicki's head. Rivers wanted to stand there but Kornicki had control of the position. Rivers is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Rivers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rivers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kornicki is keeping the position for now. Rivers working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rivers trying to control the position from guard on top but Kornicki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rivers is working Kornicki over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rivers drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kornicki dives on top into guard. Kornicki won't allow Rivers to get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Austin Rivers dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Rivers throws a quick inside leg kick. Rivers throws a leg kick that misses. Rivers misses with a leg kick and Kornicki counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Rivers throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Rivers has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Kornicki off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivers fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Rivers shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kornicki napping and manages to drive through into side control! Rivers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kornicki, who protects the arm well. Rivers lands some shots froms side control. Rivers lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivers has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kornicki is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rivers yanks on the arm and Kornicki is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rivers.
