Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hughes's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, A Country Boy Can Survive. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Shields! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields scores with a takedown into Hughes's guard. Shields wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving. Hughes is pulling down on Shields's head. It's preventing any offense from Shields, at least for the moment. Shields is stalling in the full guard.
 The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Shields was stalling too much, according to the referee. Hughes tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hughes to score an easy takedown into full guard. Shields wants to stand but Hughes is controlling the position. Hughes wants to control from the top but Shields keeps moving. Hughes preventing the sweep.

Hughes tries to free his leg and advance position but Shields is retaining full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Shields manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shields sitting in guard, not really doing much. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
 Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shields feints and as Hughes raises his hands in defense, Shields changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Hughes wants to sweep but no luck. Shields looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Shields is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hughes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shields is keeping the position for now. Hughes preventing the sweep. Hughes trying to control but Shields is working from the bottom. Shields looks gassed! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
 The ref stands the fighters back up. Matt Hughes wasn't doing enough on the ground. Hughes shoots and misses and Shields counters with a solid body kick.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Shields stuffs the takedown. Shields tries to clinch but Hughes moves out of range. Shields tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hughes swats him away and circles back towards the center. Shields looks to land a combination but Hughes avoids it well.
Shields changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hughes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Shields wants to stand but Hughes has his arm trapped.
Shields swings around for an armbar but Hughes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shields's guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hughes engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Shields dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Shields stuffs the takedown. Hughes fails with a takedown attempt.
Shields looking to score a takedown here. Hughes is defending well but Shields drives through and ends up in Hughes's guard. Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Hughes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
 OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Shields hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Hughes enables Shields to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hughes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Shields controls from within his opponent's guard.
 That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
 The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Shields was stalling too much, according to the referee. Hughes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shields tries to avoid it but Hughes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shields to the ground. Shields escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shields closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hughes did well to prevent Shields getting side control. It looks like Shields is going to stand back up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shields in particular looking to stall. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
 The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jake Shields wasn't active enough on the ground.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Shields tries to stand and escape but Hughes is controlling the position. Shields is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Hughes manages to get to full guard. Shields looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hughes stops Shields from standing up.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Shields is keeping the position for now. Shields is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hughes is pushing down on Shields's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shields is fighting to maintain full guard but Hughes has managed to sneak the leg through.
Shields actively working from the bottom here. Hughes is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Hughes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Shields tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hughes trying to control but Shields is having none of it.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes fails to move to back control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shields is working to get back to half guard.
Hughes is trying to take his opponent's back.
Shields is squirming around, avoiding Hughes's attempts to control the action. Shields is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hughes content just to control the position here. Hughes's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Shields showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Shields throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hughes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shields is in Hughes's guard. Shields throws a strike but Hughes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Shields is trying to control the position but Hughes postures up. Shields looking for a sweep. Not yet Shields, not yet. Hughes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Shields trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Shields pulls Hughes in close to prevent any damage. Shields takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Matt Hughes. Hughes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shields tries to avoid it but Hughes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shields to the ground. Shields escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hughes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shields's waist but Shields gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hughes off to one side.
Shields shoots in and bounces Hughes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Shields looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Shields is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Shields is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Shields is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jake Shields has got the better of the ground game so far. Shields keeping full guard, as Hughes tries to pass. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
 We're going to have a standup here because Matt Hughes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Shields feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shields connects with a couple of short punches.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shields lands a front kick. Hughes looks for a takedown but Shields sprawls well. Hughes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shields's waist but Shields gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hughes off to one side. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. No luck for Hughes with that takedown attempt. Matt Hughes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jake Shields is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Shields blocks a head kick by Hughes.
And that's the end of the fight! Jake Shields comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Shields has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
