Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Calderon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Ramos! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calderon shoots in looking for a takedown. Ramos tries to sprawl out of it but Calderon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ramos manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ramos shoots in but no luck this time. Calderon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ramos swats him away and circles back towards the center. Calderon tries to clinch up but Ramos circles away and keeps his distance. Calderon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ramos paws at him with a jab and circles away. Ramos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Calderon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ramos somewhat. A lazy body kick from Ramos and Ramos takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Calderon slips a jab and a cross from Ramos.
Ramos takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Calderon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Calderon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ramos as he jumps to the side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramos shoots in and drives through. Calderon sprawls well. Jose Calderon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Ramos. Calderon connects with a solid leg kick. Ramos scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Ramos is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Calderon has escaped the position, nice work there. Ramos fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Calderon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ramos on the ground. Ramos lands some shots froms side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Calderon avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ramos. Calderon gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ramos punishing his opponent with strikes. Ramos dominating with strikes here. Calderon is bucking up trying to escape but Ramos cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Ramos is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Ramos!
