Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorik Vartanov! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vartanov gets the takedown into side control. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Vartanov goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Silva has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Vartanov but great work by Silva. Silva works to advance to full mount. Vartanov defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Vartanov is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Silva jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Vartanov manages to avoid the submission attempt. Vartanov tries to get back to half guard but can't. The strikes coming from Silva are missing the target in this wave of attacks. You can see the frustration on Vartanov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Silva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vartanov tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it. Vartanov is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Silva off and has taken his back! Vartanov trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Silva doesn't escape. Silva is keeping busy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Silva is trying to remain composed but Vartanov is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vartanov looking for the RNC. Vartanov wants to control but Silva manages to buck him off and is now in Vartanov's guard! Nice work there by Silva! Vartanov wants to sweep but no luck. Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vartanov swivels though and keeps the full guard. Silva trying to control but Vartanov is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva throws a big right hand that misses. Silva forces his way into half guard. Vartanov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though. Silva thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Vartanov trying to control here.
Vartanov is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Silva jumps into side control! Vartanov looks gassed!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vartanov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vartanov defends it well. Vartanov is trying to control Silva's posture. Silva takes advantage of the lull and advances to side control. He also appears to have an arm triangle here! Uh oh, big trouble for Vartanov! Silva is rotating here... this could be the end... Vartanov is out! Silva has ended this one emphatically! Great submission!
