Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Abbott Jr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Rogers! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abbott Jr swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Abbott Jr throws a series of strikes that have Rogers backpedaling.
A solid leg kick lands there for Rogers.
Rogers takes the fight into the clinch. Rogers throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Rogers breaks from the clinch.
Abbott Jr closes the distance and lands a one-two. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Abbott Jr shoots for a double leg takedown but Rogers sprawls well. He's pushed Abbott Jr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Abbott Jr scores with a shot to the body.
Abbott Jr closes the distance and clinches up with Rogers, looking for a takedown. Abbott Jr pushes Rogers against the cage but Rogers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Abbott Jr misses with a combination
and Rogers counters by clinching up. Rogers gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Abbott Jr.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Abbott Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rogers gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers content to control rather than advance. It looks like Rogers might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Abbott Jr tries to kick Rogers off but Rogers keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rogers sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Bruce Rogers wasn't active enough on the ground. Rogers stuffs the takedown attempt from Abbott Jr. Abbott Jr gets slowly back to his feet. Abbott Jr throws a right and a left that both miss. Abbott Jr throws a right and a left that both miss. Abbott Jr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
David Abbott Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rogers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rogers is trying to get an arm triangle but Abbott Jr is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Abbott Jr keeps working. Rogers postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Rogers decides to take the fight back to the feet. Abbott Jr connects with a body shot. Abbott Jr fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rogers pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Abbott Jr stalks Rogers and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rogers's face. Rogers staggers backwards, shaken. Rogers looks gassed! Abbott Jr drops Rogers with a nice combination! Abbott Jr dives into Rogers's guard, looking to finish!
Rogers is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Abbott Jr cracks Rogers with a solid left hand. Rogers is still in real trouble! Can Abbott Jr finish him? Rogers has a closed guard, preventing Abbott Jr from standing up. Abbott Jr trying to control the position from guard on top but Rogers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Abbott Jr is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Abbott Jr scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Abbott Jr is in close to Rogers's body, working some short punches and elbows. Abbott Jr would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Abbott Jr gets to his feet and stands over Rogers, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Rogers felt that one! Abbott Jr unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Rogers from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Abbott Jr!
