The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strangler fails with the takedown.
Strangler shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rood defends it nicely.
Strangler closes the distance and clinches up with Rood, looking for a takedown. Strangler pushes Rood against the cage but Rood circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brad Rood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of New York Strangler.
Strangler moves in looking to clinch but Rood pushes him off.
Strangler gets caught napping as Rood dives in and scores a takedown. Strangler manages to retain guard.
Strangler manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rood manages to get himself to full guard.
Rood is looking for a triangle but Strangler pushes his legs off easily.
Rood utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rood trying to keep a closed guard but Strangler is proving a slippery customer.
Strangler slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rood is not content to let Strangler control the position.
Strangler is trying to ground and pound but Rood uses the momentary lack of control by Strangler to regain half guard.
Strangler is working for a kimura but Rood is defending it quite comfortably.

Strangler is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rood has managed to free his arm - good work.
Strangler is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Rood is looking to get to half guard.
Strangler with a couple of short strikes.
Rood is looking to improve his position but Strangler isn't that keen on the idea.

Strangler landing strikes from the mount and Rood is in trouble!
Strangler jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rood is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rood and Strangler has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strangler decides to stand back up.
A slapping leg kick lands for Strangler.
Strangler closes the distance and pushes Rood back into the cage.
Strangler fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Strangler tries to pull guard but Rood won't allow it.
Strangler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rood drives through and clinches with Strangler against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Strangler prevents Rood from breaking the clinch.
Strangler pulls Rood into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rood with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rood trying to control but Strangler is working from the bottom.
Rood stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Rood thows a body shot but no joy.
Strangler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rood!
Strangler get's back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Strangler defending well as Rood loads up on a big left hand.
A cross from Rood lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
New York Strangler dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Strangler throws a head kick that misses.
Strangler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rood tries to avoid it but Strangler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rood to the ground. Rood escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Strangler uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rood.
Rood misses with a head kick.
Strangler throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rood connects with a looping right hand.

Rood shoots for a takedown but Strangler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Strangler tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A lazy left from Strangler finds it's target.
Rood ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Strangler moves away.

Rood swings and misses with a hook to the body.
New York Strangler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Strangler tries to clinch there but Rood circles away.

Strangler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rood!
Rood in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Rood is squirming around, avoiding Strangler's attempts to control the action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Strangler is landing with some decent strikes but Rood is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Rood is rocked!
Strangler cracks Rood with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
