Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh King! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Hanma! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hanma uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from King. Hanma throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by King. King shoots in and bounces Hanma off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. King looking to pass the guard. King might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hanma swivels though and keeps the full guard. King content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Hanma has momentary wrist control but King slips an elbow through the middle. Hanma looking to sweep here. No luck so far. King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. King wants to control from the top but Hanma keeps moving. King with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. King looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hanma wants to sweep here but King controlling him for the moment. King wants to control from the top but Hanma keeps moving. King controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Josh King just wasn't active enough. King looks to score with a jab to the body but Hanma is just out of range. Hanma avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Hanma counters with a three punch combo that has King backing up. King nods at Hanma to acknowledge the strikes. Hanma ducks under a wild hook from King. King throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hanma sees it coming and avoids it easily. King circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hanma shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Hanma looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. King is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. King makes his way to full guard. A much better position for King. Hanma tries to stand but King is controlling from the bottom. King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! King lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. King slips a nice elbow through Hanma's hands, connecting with Hanma's forehead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. King perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. King looks to score some points with some ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hanma can do anything to dispel that myth. King is keen to just control but Hanma is a slippery customer. Hanma taking some punishment here, with King in his half guard. Hanma is in trouble now - King has advanced to mount! King lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
King prevents Hanma from getting the reversal. Hanma takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! King looking to finish Hanma with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hanma! King raining down shots from the mount! King is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hanma can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
King lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Hanma is rocked! King postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hanma looks a forlorn figure.
Hanma is still in real trouble! Can King finish him? Hanma really doesn't want to stay on the ground with King. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. King wants to control the pace but Hanma is squirming around nicely. King controlling his opponent. King postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Hanma badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of King around the waist but King pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! King is the winner by TKO! King jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Josh King!
