PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Obworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Winter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Niko Winter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Obworth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Niko Winter!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obworth throws out a loose jab but Winter uses good head movement to avoid it.
Winter pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Obworth throws an overhand right that lands on Winter's shoulder, as Winter tries to avoid the shot.
Winter lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Obworth backs up against the cage.
Obworth misses with a hook. Winter ducked under it nicely.
Winter throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Obworth counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Obworth slips a jab and a cross from Winter.
Obworth throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Obworth tries to move into range but Winter moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Obworth's corner calls for a 1-2. Obworth obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Obworth loads up on a big right hand but Winter slips the punch.
Obworth thows a left - swing and a miss!
Obworth slips a jab from Winter.
Winter throws a jab but it's blocked by Obworth.
Jacob Obworth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Winter jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Obworth defending well as Winter loads up on a big left hand.
Winter throws a right hand that misses
and Obworth counters with a stiff right hand.
Winter throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Obworth counters with a three punch combo that has Winter backing up. Winter nods at Obworth to acknowledge the strikes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Obworth scores with a body shot.
Obworth displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Winter throws out the jab.
Winter looks to land a right hand but Obworth moved out of range.
Obworth connects with a nice looking jab.

Obworth looking to score a takedown here. Winter is defending well but Obworth drives through and ends up in Winter's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Obworth working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Obworth missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Obworth thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Obworth throws a big right hand that misses.
Obworth postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Obworth sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Winter's guard.
Obworth thows a huge punch but Winter dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Obworth working over Winter with some ground and pound. Winter looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Obworth drops an elbow to the side of Winter's head.
Obworth thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Winter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Obworth. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Obworth frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Obworth cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Winter can do anything to dispel that myth.
Obworth lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Obworth scoring with strikes but Winter is staying in there.
Winter wants to control but Obworth is having none of it.
Obworth has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Winter's face.


Winter is rocked!
Winter looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Obworth postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Winter bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Obworth and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jacob Obworth!
A determined Jacob Obworth didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
