Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Haste The Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Pelaez! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Day tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Pelaez swivels and escapes. The Day closes the distance and clinches up with Pelaez, looking for a takedown. The Day pushes Pelaez against the cage but Pelaez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Pelaez tries to clinch but fails miserably and The Day counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. The Day trying to control but Pelaez is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The Day gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Pelaez tries to clinch up and The Day decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pelaez's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Pelaez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The Day missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The Day tries to free his leg and advance position but Pelaez is retaining full guard. The Day might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. The Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Pelaez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The Day pushes down on Pelaez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pelaez tries to kick The Day off but The Day keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Pelaez blocking the ground and pound attempt from The Day. The Day is trying to control the action in half guard but Pelaez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Pelaez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The Day takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The Day is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pelaez sees it coming and defends easily. The Day is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The Day decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Day shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The Day seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Pelaez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
