Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gino Carano! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carano shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one. Carano has a takedown stuffed. Carano closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away. Jimmy Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gino Carano. Carano fails miserably with a takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carano fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Carano. Jimmy Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Carano shoots in and drives through. That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Jones keeping full guard, as Carano tries to pass. Jones wants to stand but Carano is controlling the position. Carano tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard. Carano trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Carano wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Carano looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably and Carano counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carano. Jones using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Carano tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Carano looks gassed! Jones tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Carano counters by clinching up. Jones tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Jones works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Carano has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jimmy Jones will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Carano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Carano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Jones stuffs the takedown. Jones looks to clinch and Carano counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carano. Carano trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom. Carano won't allow Jones to get back to his feet. Jones wants to sweep here but Carano controlling him for the moment. Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carano is controlling him. Jones wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carano trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Carano drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carano jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Carano shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well. Jimmy Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gino Carano. Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Carano avoiding damage as Jones throws knees to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jones gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carano.

Carano has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position. Jones preventing the sweep. Carano working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Carano is tightening it up a little... Jones has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Jones reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Jones taps out! nice BJJ there by Carano!
