Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Isaki Gomi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andal Ampatuan! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ampatuan throws a big shot that misses. Gomi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gomi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A slapping body kick lands there for Ampatuan. Ampatuan misses with the combination.
Gomi shoots in for a takedown but Ampatuan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Nice defenses there by Ampatuan. Gomi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ampatuan feints a jab promting Gomi to slip. Ampatuan then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gomi slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Andal Ampatuan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Good standup being displayed there by Ampatuan as he connects with a hook. Ampatuan cracks a nice hook into Gomi's ribs. Andal Ampatuan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ampatuan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gomi manages to avoid it. Gomi really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Gomi tries to score with a low kick but Ampatuan moves his leg out of the way. Ampatuan swings for the body but Gomi moves out of range.

Ampatuan has momentary wrist control but Gomi slips an elbow through the middle. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gomi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ampatuan works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ampatuan keeping moving, preventing Gomi from controlling successfully. Ampatuan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Ampatuan has momentary wrist control but Gomi slips an elbow through the middle. Gomi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Gomi wants to control from the top but Ampatuan keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ampatuan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ampatuan can do anything to dispel that myth. Gomi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ampatuan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ampatuan has escaped and now he's on top! Gomi manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Gomi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gomi content just to control the position here.

Ampatuan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Gomi fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Ampatuan is looking to improve his position but Gomi isn't that keen on the idea. Gomi is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ampatuan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Gomi sitting and controlling from the half guard. Gomi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Ampatuan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gomi is working away from the top position though. Ampatuan controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Gomi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ampatuan's head. Gomi is trying to control. Ampatuan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gomi connects with a nice short shot to Ampatuan's temple. Ampatuan regains full guard. Nicely done. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gomi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Gomi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Ampatuan has momentary wrist control but Gomi slips an elbow through the middle. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Isaki Gomi. I think Gomi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
