5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryce Peavler! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Peavler throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hughes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Peavler! Hughes controlling the pace for now. Peavler working to try and regain half guard.
Hughes landing strikes from the mount. Hughes dominating with strikes here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hughes tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Hughes with the ground and pound from mount. Hughes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Peavler takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Hughes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Peavler looks a forlorn figure.

That's one minute gone in the round. Peavler is trying desperately to improve position. Hughes lands a big shot there that rocks Peavler but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Peavler is still in real trouble! Can Hughes finish him? Peavler taking shots to the head. Hughes lands a heavy elbow. Hughes dominating with strikes here. Hughes controlling the pace for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Peavler is desperately trying to improve his position but Hughes has a good base and remains in mount. Hughes sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Hughes looking to control but Peavler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Hughes just wasn't active enough. Nice sprawl there from Hughes as Peavler shoots in. Hughes dives in and grabs Peavler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Peavler pushes down on Hughes's head and hops out. Hughes tries for a takedown but Peavler sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Hughes shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hughes gets the takedown into side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! You can see the frustration on Peavler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Hughes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hughes fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Mark Hughes dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
A combination from Peavler does no damage. Hughes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. A momentary lapse in concentration from Peavler enables Hughes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Peavler manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Peavler controls Hughes momentarily but Hughes frees himself. Hughes trying to control the position from guard on top but Peavler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hughes sitting in guard here, content to control. Hughes stands and steps away. Peavler gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peavler shoots in for a takedown but Hughes shows good takedown defense. Hughes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Peavler circles away. Peavler throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily. Hughes has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hughes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mark Hughes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hughes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Peavler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Peavler moves into the clinch. Hughes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Peavler gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hughes counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Peavler! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hughes with shots to the head and body - Peavler looks very uncomfortable down there. Hughes unloading with bombs!

Hughes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Peavler is looking to escape. Peavler is wriggling around trying to escape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peavler can do anything to dispel that myth. Peavler is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes scoring with strikes but Peavler is staying in there. Hughes is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Peavler can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hughes can't control as he wanted to and Peavler manages to get the fight back to his half guard. Hughes wants to control but Peavler is keeping him busy. Hughes sitting and controlling from the half guard. Nice strikes from Hughes there. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hughes throwing shots but Peavler is blocking nicely. Hughes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peavler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Hughes thows a huge punch but Peavler dodges it nicely.

Hughes wants to sweep but no luck. Peavler is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hughes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hughes has escaped and now he's on top! Hughes scoring with some ground and pound. Hughes gets to his feet - Peavler follows without any prompting. Hughes tries to clinch but Peavler moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peavler stuffs the takedown. Hughes clinches with his opponent.
Hughes wants the takedown. Peavler is fighting it off but Hughes persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Peavler's guard against the cage. Hughes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Peavler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Peavler is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Peavler trying to control the position.
Peavler keeping moving, preventing Hughes from controlling successfully. Hughes gets to his feet. Peavler looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hughes landing punches. Hughes with the ground and pound from mount. Peavler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. A nice elbow there by Hughes. Hughes goes for an armbar but Peavler turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Peavler. Peavler looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hughes gets to his feet. Peavler looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peavler to the mat! Peavler manages to get full guard. Hughes throwing strikes from guard but Peavler blocks nicely. Hughes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Peavler can do to turn this around? Hughes trying to control but Peavler is working from the bottom. Hughes lands a couple of elbows. Hughes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Hughes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Peavler, up you get! Hughes shoots for a double leg takedown but Peavler sprawls well. He's pushed Hughes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Peavler swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hughes shoots in looking for a takedown but Peavler manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hughes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Peavler throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Hughes slaps away a takedown attempt from Peavler, before circling back to the center of the mat. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Peavler tries for a takedown but Hughes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Peavler stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Peavler wants it to stay on the feet. Bryce Peavler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Peavler is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hughes's half guard. Peavler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hughes keeps working. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Peavler seems to be looking for submissions.
And that's the end of the fight! Mark Hughes showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hughes, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
