PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Randy Bobandy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen You Aint Stoppin Me as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randy Bobandy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Deon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jones lands an elbow that stopped Bobandy in his tracks for a moment.
Jones is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Bobandy is defending well for now.

Bobandy breaks the clinch.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with Bobandy.

Bobandy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bobandy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jones.
Jones dives in and grabs Bobandy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bobandy pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.
Jones misses with a low kick.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Bobandy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Bobandy won't allow it.
Bobandy tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jones throws a knee to the head but misses.

Jones lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Bobandy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Bobandy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.

Jones stands up and beckons Bobandy to join him on the feet.
Bobandy lands a head kick. Jones smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bobandy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Jones tries to land knees in the clinch but Bobandy avoids the damage to the body.
Bobandy on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Bobandy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bobandy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bobandy as he avoids it easily.
Jones looks gassed!
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bobandy throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Jones has Bobandy up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones lands a good knee to the midsection. Bobandy won't want to take too many of those.

Bobandy manages to break the clinch.

Jones gets a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones decides to pull guard.

Jones looking for subs off his back but Bobandy has passed one foot through into half guard.
Bobandy moves into full mount! Jones won't be happy about that!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Deon Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Jones rushes Bobandy and presses him up against the cage.
Bobandy on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bobandy gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.
Bobandy just leaning against Jones, taking a breather.
Bobandy lands an elbow inside.
Jones stalling in the clinch but Bobandy improves position.

Jones rushes Bobandy and presses him up against the cage.

Jones has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bobandy uses from the top position.

Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bobandy is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jones.

Bobandy is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Bobandy is persistently looking for the submission but Jones is defending it well.

Jones tries to roll but Bobandy sticks to his back.

Jones defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Bobandy's arms.

Bobandy is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jones defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Even with his hooks in, Bobandy manages to miss with strikes from the back.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Bobandy's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Bobandy doesn't have the hooks in and Jones manages to turn into his guard.
Bobandy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bobandy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Randy Bobandy will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

The referee is keeping an eye on Bobandy - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Bobandy is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Deon Jones seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Bobandy avoids a wild elbow strike from Jones.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bobandy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
