Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Willy Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ron France! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! An inside leg kick lands from Sanchez. Sanchez fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. A solid leg kick lands there for Sanchez.
Sanchez lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Sanchez looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Sanchez pushing down on France's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sanchez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Sanchez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. France wants to control but Sanchez passes into side.
Sanchez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, France rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sanchez's guard! Nice work there by France!
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. France gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sanchez manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
BOOM! Sanchez connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sanchez with shots to the head and body - France looks very uncomfortable down there. France in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Sanchez working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez won't let France get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Sanchez with the ground and pound from mount. Sanchez is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. France is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. France flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Sanchez anticipates the leg and manages to get behind France and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Sanchez slips an arm under France chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Sanchez has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Sanchez is squeezing on France like an anaconda would it's prey. France fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Willy Sanchez!
