PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lucius Cincinnatus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamie Cowlam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cincinnatus comes to the ring accompanied by Guile's Theme Song. Cowlam has chosen Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Cant Stop as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lucius Cincinnatus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamie Cowlam!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cincinnatus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cincinnatus has a takedown stuffed.
Cincinnatus closes the distance and clinches up with Cowlam, looking for a takedown. Cincinnatus pushes Cowlam against the ropes but Cowlam circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cowlam jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cincinnatus shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cowlam but Cowlam pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucius Cincinnatus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Cowlam counters with a nice uppercut.
Cincinnatus shoots for a double leg takedown but Cowlam sprawls well. He's pushed Cincinnatus's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cowlam has closed the distance and engaged Cincinnatus in a clinch.
Cowlam looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Cincinnatus jumps guard but Cowlam stands there with Cincinnatus around his waist. Cincinnatus gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cincinnatus drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cowlam pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cincinnatus shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Cowlam counter with a right hand.

Cincinnatus tries to sprawl but Cowlam drives through with a takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Cowlam is taking a breather. Cincinnatus says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cincinnatus moves into full guard.
Cowlam controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jamie Cowlam hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cincinnatus fails with the takedown.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cowlam fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cincinnatus dives in and grabs Cowlam's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cowlam pushes down on Cincinnatus's head and hops out.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cincinnatus lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cowlam has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cowlam and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Cincinnatus shoots in looking for a takedown but Cowlam manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cincinnatus's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cincinnatus shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cowlam sprawls well. Cowlam wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cincinnatus gets slowly back to his feet.
Cincinnatus lands with a thumping leg kick.
Cowlam scores with a jab. Cincinnatus acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Cowlam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Cincinnatus paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cincinnatus motions for Cowlam to come forward. Cincinnatus throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Cowlam just misses with a punch to the body.

Cincinnatus drives through with a takedown into Cowlam's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Cowlam is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cincinnatus is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cowlam is trying to keep Cincinnatus in close.

Cincinnatus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Cincinnatus has gone for a leg lock! Cowlam slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cincinnatus's guard.
Cincinnatus pulls Cowlam in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamie Cowlam dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Cowlam feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cincinnatus is pulling down on Cowlam's head. It's preventing any offense from Cowlam, at least for the moment.

Cincinnatus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cowlam gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cincinnatus is pulling down on Cowlam's head to control his posture.

Cowlam advances to half guard.
Cowlam is keen to just control but Cincinnatus is a slippery customer.
Cincinnatus is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Cincinnatus slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Cincinnatus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cowlam!
Cowlam is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Cincinnatus is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cowlam can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cincinnatus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cowlam is looking to escape.

Cincinnatus lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Cowlam avoids a series of strikes thrown by Cincinnatus.
Cincinnatus tries to control but Cowlam wriggling away.
Cowlam tries to hold on but Cincinnatus pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cincinnatus is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Cowlam is forced to tap! Great finish!
