Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Hawk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George McMillan! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hawk manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McMillan on his heels. He'll look to pass McMillan's guard now, I'm sure. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hawk passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. McMillan looking for submissions from an awkward position here. McMillan strikes from the bottom but Hawk uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Hawk stands up and beckons McMillan to his feet. Hawk lands with a nice body punch. Hawk jabs at McMillan's body. Excellent takedown into side control there by Hawk. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McMillan tries to improve position but can't. Hawk looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. McMillan is trying to work for a sweep but Hawk has mounted him!
That's one minute gone in the round. Hawk stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. McMillan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. McMillan throwing shots but Hawk is blocking nicely. McMillan is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hawk moves into full guard.
Hawk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hawk managing to control the position. McMillan throwing strikes from guard but Hawk blocks nicely. Hawk is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. This has been an exciting period of action! McMillan has clasped his hands together around Hawk's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Hawk gets back to half guard. Hawk is looking to improve his position.
Hawk has one foot on McMillan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McMillan shoots in and gets a takedown into Hawk's guard. Hawk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. McMillan trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McMillan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hawk manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McMillan has Hawk in his guard. Hawk lands a couple of digs. McMillan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hawk passes into side control.
McMillan looks gassed! Hawk decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hawk. McMillan shoots in and gets a takedown into Hawk's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McMillan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hawk is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McMillan, into his guard. McMillan is looking for a triangle but Hawk pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hawk controlling from the top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Hawk dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hawk fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McMillan, pushing him back against the cage. McMillan working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. With the fighters up against the cage, McMillan throws an elbow but misses. McMillan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mike Hawk is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hawk manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McMillan on his heels. He'll look to pass McMillan's guard now, I'm sure. McMillan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hawk manages to get himself to full guard.
Hawk has his feet on McMillan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Hawk throws a series of punches but McMillan moves out of range. McMillan gets caught flat footed, as Hawk shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McMillan tries to strike from the bottom.
Mike Hawk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. McMillan wants to control the position but Hawk says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. McMillan is staying active underneath Hawk, who seems content to just control the action from this position. McMillan trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Hawk manages to pass to mount!
Hawk punishing his opponent with strikes. McMillan regains half guard. Hawk seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. McMillan is staying active underneath Hawk, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Hawk is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
McMillan is rocked! Ground and pound from Hawk. McMillan is still in real trouble! Can Hawk finish him? This has been an exciting period of action! Hawk stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Hawk throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Hawk dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! McMillan has had enough and taps out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Mike Hawk!
