PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Cullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Ketchup (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Cullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, John Ketchup!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ketchup shoots for a takedown but Cullen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Ketchup rushes Cullen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ketchup jumps guard and drags Cullen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Ketchup keeping moving, preventing Cullen from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ketchup working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cullen.

Ketchup looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cullen won't allow Ketchup to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cullen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ketchup will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Ketchup looking for a sweep. Not yet Ketchup, not yet.
Cullen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ketchup on the ground.
Ketchup pulls Cullen in close to prevent any damage.
Cullen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cullen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ketchup manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ketchup tries to close the distance and clinch but Cullen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ketchup shoots for a takedown but Cullen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cullen slaps away a takedown attempt from Ketchup, before circling back to the center of the mat.
John Cullen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Ketchup.

Cullen gets tackled into the cage by Ketchup. Ketchup maintains the clinch.

Ketchup blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Ketchup breaks from the clinch.
Ketchup throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cullen's waist but Cullen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ketchup off to one side.

and Ketchup moves into the clinch.
Cullen tries to break free but Ketchup pushes him back against the cage.
Cullen wants to break free but Ketchup has control.
Cullen tries for a takedown. No joy.
Cullen misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ketchup.

Cullen is trying to maintain a safe position but Ketchup gets an underhook and turns Cullen into the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ketchup can't get the takedown.

Ketchup ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ketchup no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cullen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ketchup swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cullen won't allow Ketchup to sweep him here.

Ketchup bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cullen's guard.

Ketchup is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cullen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ketchup's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Ketchup content to stall in guard here.
Cullen is looking to sweep but instead, Ketchup has passed into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cullen tries to roll over but Ketchup keeps him under control.
Ketchup winds up and cracks Cullen with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Ketchup dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Cullen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Cullen looking to sit in guard and control but Ketchup gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Cullen can't keep his opponent in guard - Ketchup advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ketchup is looking to advance position but Cullen won't allow it.

Ketchup seems to be looking for submissions.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ketchup in particular looking to stall.
Cullen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Ketchup is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Cullen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Ketchup was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Cullen doesn't manage to clinch there - Ketchup circles away.
Cullen shoots in for a takedown but Ketchup shows good takedown defense.
Cullen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ketchup swats him away and circles back towards the center.
John Cullen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ketchup has taken the fight to the clinch.

Ketchup jumps guard and drags Cullen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Cullen wants to get up but he can't break Ketchup's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ketchup has control of Cullen's left arm, preventing Cullen from doing any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Ketchup hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ketchup has a takedown stuffed.

Ketchup dives in and scores a takedown into Cullen's guard.

John Ketchup showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Cullen shoots in but Ketchup avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ketchup misses with a head kick.
Ketchup shoots in looking for a takedown but Cullen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ketchup's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cullen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ketchup throws a series of punches but Cullen avoids them all with ease.
Cullen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ketchup was well out of range. Poor timing from Cullen.

Ketchup throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cullen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ketchup is in Cullen's guard.
Ketchup advances to half guard.

Ketchup is trying for a kimura here. Cullen looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Ketchup wins by kimura!
