PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Fox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fox's entrance music is Rammstein - Sonne (Clawfinger K.O. remix). A fine choice. Diaz is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Get out of my way. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Fox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Patrick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz misses with a double jab
and Diaz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Horrible takedown by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Fox which made him look bad.
Diaz fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz lands a right hook to the body.
Fox just misses with a punch to the body.

Fox swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fox throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Diaz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fox sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fox paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Diaz misses with the combination.
Steve Fox is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Diaz misses with an uppercut.
Diaz showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Fox.
Diaz clobbers Fox with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Diaz throws a jab when Fox was well out of range.

Fox lands a body shot.
Diaz tries to clinch but Fox moves out of range.
Fox comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Diaz is looking to clinch but Fox is avoiding it.
Diaz throws a leg kick but Fox checks it.

Diaz misses with a double jab.

Fox darts in and clinches Diaz up against the cage.
Diaz lands a hook that snaps the head of Fox backwards.
Fox blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Diaz throws a big shot that misses.
Diaz lands the left hand.
Diaz tries to bum rush Fox with a series of wild strikes but Fox uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Diaz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Fox throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range.

Fox is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.

and Fox counters with a stiff right hand.
Fox digs a good hook to Diaz's body.

Diaz doesn't manage to clinch there - Fox circles away.
Fox blocks a leg kick.
Fox takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Fox misses with a punch to the body.
Diaz doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Diaz tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Fox's elbow.

Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Fox smiles and moves away.

Fox clinches up against the cage.
Fox tries a body shot but Diaz blocks it.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diaz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Patrick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches up with Fox, looking for a takedown. Diaz pushes Fox against the cage but Fox circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Fox just misses with a punch to the body.
Fox tries to clinch but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fox as he jumps to the side.
Steve Fox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Diaz.
Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.

Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Fox gets tackled into the cage by Diaz. Diaz maintains the clinch.

Patrick Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Diaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fox.

Diaz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fox on his heels. He'll look to pass Fox's guard now, I'm sure.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Fox keeps moving.
Fox is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.

Diaz drops back looking for a leg! Fox is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fox manages to kick Diaz off! Diaz jumps back into Fox's guard.

Diaz wants to pass the guard but Fox is keeping the position.
Fox is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Diaz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Fox can't keep his opponent in guard - Diaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Fox is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Fox has managed to free his arm - good work.

Diaz seems to be working for a kimura but Fox defends the submission attempt.

Steve Fox has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Diaz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Fox!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fox throwing hammer fists to the chest of Diaz. What's that going to do exactly?
Diaz blocks Fox's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Diaz is working for a guillotine from mount but Fox frees his head quite easily.

Diaz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

And that's the end of the fight!
Patrick Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
