11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jim Beam! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schauman misses with an uppercut. Beam saw that one coming. Schauman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Schauman throws a looping overhand right but Beam ducks down to avoid it. A telegraphed right hand from Beam misses the target. Schauman lunges at Beam with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Beam's hand. Eugen Schauman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Beam defending well as Schauman loads up on a big left hand. Schauman thows a body shot but no joy. Schauman misses with an uppercut. Beam saw that one coming. Schauman connects with the punch. Schauman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beam avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Schauman scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Beam has his takedown stuffed and Schauman counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Schauman not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Beam wants to control but Schauman is keeping busy and won't allow it. The fighters are battling for position here. Beam manages to regain full guard. Nice work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Schauman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Beam tries for a takedown but Schauman circles away easily and Schauman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Schauman connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Beam's hands. Schauman fails with the takedown. Schauman scores with a jab to the body. Schauman throws a hook to the side of Beam's head but Beam sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Beam misses with a takedown attempt - Schauman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Schauman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Beam.

Beam is trying desperately to land a takedown but Schauman is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Beam. Schauman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Schauman listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. A shot to the liver by Schauman. Beautiful body shot. Schauman shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Schauman showed some decent athleticism there. Beam wants to control but Schauman is keeping busy.

Schauman seems to be working for a kimura but Beam defends the submission attempt. Schauman is trying to control the action in half guard but Beam is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Beam is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Schauman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Beam is just riding it out for now. Schauman eventually gives up the hold.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Schauman seems to be working for a kimura but Beam defends the submission attempt. Schauman is looking to advance position but Beam won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Beam shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Beam is still on wobbly legs! Can Schauman finish him? Nice combo by Schauman! Oh, that's hurt him - Beam falls to the canvas and Schauman follows him into side control. The ground and pound from Schauman seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Schauman swings around for an armbar but Beam sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Schauman's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Schauman trying to control the position here. Beam seems to have recovered his senses. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Schauman looking to control.
