The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Da Gama drives through with a takedown into Martin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Da Gama won't allow Martin to sweep him here. Da Gama content to stall in guard here. It looks like Da Gama might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Martin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Yayutee Da Gama. Da Gama gets a double leg takedown into Martin's guard. Da Gama passes easily into side control. Nice work. Da Gama has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Martin! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Da Gama breaks from Martin's wrist control and lands an elbow. Da Gama has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Martin's face.
Da Gama controlling the position easily from mount. Martin is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Da Gama looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Da Gama looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Martin has left one of his arms exposed and Da Gama doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Martin screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yayutee Da Gama!
